Janet Turner

Since 1995, Janet has had the privilege of serving as a Hinchley Wood Residents’ Association Borough Councillor, and also as the Mayor of Elmbridge during the Olympic and Jubilee year of 2012.

Over the years she has served on all of the committees at Elmbridge Council.  In the previous Residents' administration she held the Cabinet portfolio for Leisure and Culture, including responsiblility for the development of the Xcel leisure centre, and  held this Portfolio again from 2016 to 2018, with a brief including Arts & Culture; Sport & Leisure; Parks & Recreation; Promoting Healthy Lifestyles; Youth; Children's Issues (including Member Champion for Child Protection); Museums; Public Halls; Cemeteries; Tourism; and Public Conveniences.

She has sat on the Planning Committees for many years and also chairs the Countryside Committee that looks after our commons.

It was a tremendous honour to be elected as Mayor of the Borough, meeting so many wonderful people - an experience she and husband will never forget.

She has also been a Governor of Hinchley Wood Primary School for many years and served on the working group for the Friends of Thames Ditton Hospital.

Her priorities are to protect allocations for services for the elderly and vulnerable,  the effective delivery of essential services and   maintaining Hinchley Wood as a viable shopping centre.

Janet has lived and worked in Elmbridge all her life, the last 37 years in Hinchley Wood.

Her interests include her family - she has a daughter and a son and three grown up grand daughters of whom she is very proud. Janet and her husband lead healthy cycle rides in and around Elmbridge to promote a healthy life style and she still likes to keep in touch with the local Girl Guides and Scouts. Cooking, reading, sewing and gardening are a must, and, if there is time, cycling and skiing holidays.
