Janet Turner

Janet has been a Hinchley Wood Residents’ Association Borough Councillor since 1995, and since 2016 a Residents Councillor in the Hinchley Wood and Weston Green Ward.

She was Mayor of Elmbridge during the Olympic and Jubilee year of 2012.

Over the years she has served on all the main committees at Elmbridge Borough Council, both as a member of the administration and in opposition.  She has been portfolio holder for Leisure and Culture twice, Chairman of Overview and Scrutiny, and Chairman of The Countryside Committee. She also sits on the Main Planning and Licensing committees.

In the last few months she has sat on the Heathrow Task Group and chaired the Health and Wellbeing Task Group.

Her achievements as a councillor include overseeing the development and building of the Excel Leisure Centre, which was built on time and within budget, and involvement in the 25-year plan for the enhancement and maintenance of the Elmbridge commons in co-operation
with English Nature.

She is passionate about the health and wellbeing of residents, and about making sure that Hinchley Wood and Weston Green are pleasant places to live, work and play. To these ends she combines influencing Council policy with practical action in the community, such as leading Healthy Cycle Rides in the Borough, and monthly volunteer litter picks in Weston Green and Hinchley Wood.

Janet has lived and worked in Elmbridge all her life. Her interests include her family - she has a daughter and a son and three grown up grand daughters of whom she is very proud - cooking, reading, sewing and gardening and, if there is time, cycling and skiing holidays.
